Virginia state law requires localities to prepare and recommend a comprehensive plan for the physical development of the territory within its jurisdiction. Henrico County is currently operating under the 2026 Comprehensive Plan and actively working to create the 2045 Comprehensive Plan.
HenricoNext is the community planning effort launched to establish a cohesive, countywide vision for the future and an actionable strategy for achieving it. This process will:
Input collected during the process will be one of several components used to rewrite the Comprehensive Plan, Henrico County’s key policy and regulatory document. A new interactive map public comment system is now available for residents to share their thoughts about the future of places in Henrico.
In addition to the interactive map, a meeting-in-a-box is now available online. This tool allows faith groups, book clubs, homeowners’ associations, and other community organizations to host meetings and discuss and capture open-ended feedback on the future of Henrico County.
